Practice and qualifying is over. The drivers have been treated to two days of glorious weather courtesy of WLRC. Sunday saw 80 qualifying heats and track records in all three classes. With the tracking being 'coked' and the grip still available from Saturday qualifying times were quick from the first round. Click for round 1 FTD.
In round 2 the track got slightly quicker giving the round 2 FTD. This is included Russell Williams setting a track record in 19 Turn.
The sun came in force for round 3 and the track as a result got a little slower. This combined with drivers saving their allocation of three sets of tyres produced the round 3 FTD.
As evening arrived the tracked cooled and the times got really quick. In the penultimate stock heat Jon Winter showed for FTD before fading at the end of the run. The stock track record was then destroyed by Robert Miller, who had had a quiet day to that point, taking six seconds off the record. In the final heat of the day Adam Rogers and Andy Moore both pushed for modified FTD with Andy Moore taking it and breaking the track record by 5 seconds. This gave the following final FTD.
With another glorious day beckoning the finals started at 8:45am on the Monday with the following finals line-up.
The first leg of the finals proved that pole position is not always the place to be. In the 'A' finals for the three classes only Andy Moore in modified converted pole position into a comfortable race win. In the other finals the pole man did not do so well. In stock it was Spencer Jones from third on the grid just holding off Jon Winter and in 19 turn Stuart Cann perfomed a similar feat from third on the grid holding off a late charging Mark Holloway. This resulted in the following first leg final results.
The second leg of finals produced a new different winner in each of the 'A' finals. In stock pole man Robert Miller still
couldn't convert pole into a win that going to Robert Baxter. In 19 turn Russell Williams fared better and had a perfect race to take an easy victory. Meanwhile in modified
the spectators were treated to one of the most awesome race starts ever seen to a final. From second on the grid Adam Rogers made
a start that even the Renault F1 team would have been proud of to take the lead by the entry of the KO curve only metres from the
start line. He then cruised away from the field to take an easy win. This gave the following leg two final results. More intriguingly it also
left the result in all three classes wide open with different winners in each 'A' final to date and none of the drivers having a decent
second result. The best placed driver in any class being Stuart Cann who had a third place to back up his earlier win in 19 turn.
A short interlude then followed before the third leg of the finals with the drawing of the infamous KO raffle. Among the highlights were Malcolm 'Cool Fan Man' Hall winning his own prize (which he kindly returned to the raffle), Malcolm Payne winning the main prize but the prestigious (or otherwise) KO clock was won by Darren Boyle which this year came with a team shirt proclaiming he had won said item.
Back to the racing and the third leg of the finals. First came the stock 'A' final and finally Robert Miller showed the form he had shown in qualifying
to comfortably win. But it was not enough for overall victory and without a win all day, just total consistency, Jon Winter took the stock class from Robert Miller and Mark Elms.
In 19 turn Russell Williams dominated again for his second win to guarantee first place from local boys Stuart Cann and Mark Holloway. Meanwhile in modified
it was Adam Rogers once again taking the win and the class from Andy Moore and Dave Spashett. This gave the following third leg results and overall positions.
Thus ended another excellent KO GP with every one returning home to as far away as Scotland, Cornwall and by far the longest distance to Malta. After what was probably the largest UK radio controlled car meeting people cannot wait for 2006 and the 11th KO GP.
