The 1st Annual Ansmann GP hosted by WLRC will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend as usual. The dates are Saturday 29th August to Monday 31st August 2009.
Live
results including practice times available at the
WLRC Live Timing web site.
The 2009 event will use round by round qualifying with the best two runs from five qualifying rounds to count. The full timetable looks like this.
The event will be contested by five classes comprising of Stock Touring, Super Stock (13.5 Brushless), Pro Stock (10.5 Brushless), Open Modified (5-cell modified or 6.5 brushless with 6-cell or LiPos). and GT10. The classes are described in detail within the rules.
A large number of pictures from the event are available in the photo gallery.
Not as busy as in recent years but still quite a few in attendance putting in laps ahead of the GP... Fortunately the wet stuff stayed away and any dampness remaining from yesterdays wet weather soon dissipated... The GT10 runners, in particular, were looking pretty serious...
Though
the weather looked promising early on temperatures didn't quite achieve
the forecasted levels... In fact later in the day it was bloomin' cold
even for those of us with a bit of blubber on board... Wasn't really any
rain but there were a couple of occasions when there was a smidgen of
dampness in the air [seemingly coinciding with the Super Stock top heat
runs]... Just about everyone has taken on board the 'relaxed atmosphere'
part of the 'aim for the event' and the meeting has been a whole lot
better for it... More of the same for day three PLEASE!
There were few minor 'glitches' with 'live timing' but CK sorted
these out promptly... Thank you!
First day of qualifying has been dominated somewhat by Scott Hauser... Trevor Bailey [with chromed bodyshell] has been doing his best to usurp Scott but not quite managing to do so... Also showing well have been Darren Wilcock and James Davis...
Been very close at the top in this class with Malcolm Hall taking the win in round one... Spencer Jones took the win in rounds two and three... Malc came back with a win in round four... With two wins apiece Spence holds top spot with the quicker race time [by .14 of a sec!]... Also showing well have been Matts Worton and Butcher... Mark Young has put in third quickest run of the day but hasn't been quite been consistent enough in his other runs... Dave Ringsell [recovering from a mid-week operation] has been 'struggling' a little but beware the injured racer!
As per usual this has been a competitive class with Jay Westwood holding pole by dint of two wins... Also competitive have been Jordan Howe and Jonathan Holloway winning a round apiece... Ashley Wiffen has had a couple of seconds [maybe the win will come in the fifth and final round tomorrow morning]... Also quick has been Sam Martin but maybe not as consistent as he would like... Putting in some consistent runs have been Damian Giddens and Timmay Langdell... Young Ben Mannell [picked out by race commentator as looking quick during practice] is in a very worthy eleventh position...
Jason
Butterfield has been 'doing the business' in GT10 taking the win in all
four rounds... Not quite on the same pace but still good enough to take
second each time has been Graham Douglass... Has been very close in the
middle order with good runs from Andy Sawyer, Mike Haswell, Richard Norris
and Tim Webb...
'Crisis' Kerswell holds sway after day one with two wins to his name... Luke Burley and Adam Rogers have each had one win... Ben Ingram, in fourth place, has been consistent all day but not quite on the leaders pace... A good run [in the morning] from Luke or Adam is needed to knock 'Crisis' off the top...
After four qualifying rounds the order looks like this. Everyone has one final chance in the fifth and final round in the morning.
For those who are interested the fastest runs gives the following order, but this NOT used for the qualifying order.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't as forecast for the fifth round of
qualifying... Not only was it very overcast there was even a hint of rain
in the air at times... However the weather did improve for the finals and
by the time of the third legs was quite summery... These are the final
qualifying positions.
The finals, due to the efficiency of the organising team with
assistance from the racers, ran slightly ahead of schedule... Which meant
those with a trek ahead of them got a bit of a head start for their
journeys home...
The raffle was well supported with much banter through out the
drawing of the winning tickets...
What was pleasing to see was the large number that stayed on for the
presentation to acknowledge all the winners... Thank you for that!
These are the overall final
positions. Again, thank you to everyone who attended this year and
to our new sponsor; Ansmann. Full race results are available on the
results page.
Stock
TouringScott continued his winning ways taking the fifth round of qualifying
from Trevor Bailey... Air Brush Dave [Booker] showed some of his better
form taking third...
Unfortunately the finals were straightforward affairs with Scott
taking the win in all three finals from Trevor in second and James in
third...
Unfortunately the early morning conditions weren't conducive to a quick run which is what Malc needed to knock Spence off the top spot... So positions remained unchanged for the top positions... Matthew Worton claiming third overall by dint of his second position in the first round...
Dave Gill took the first leg but wasn't able to quite repeat this performance in the following rounds... Dani Young drove quite beautifully to take second spot in leg one... Mark Woods took the overall win by winning legs two and three... Dave Gill was second overall from the steady Chris Townsend with three thirds... Chris was using a new car [first time on the tarmac on Saturday] so was more than pleased with his week-ends endeavours...
This was a closely competitive grouping of racers which led to some really good finals... Rob Sawell took the overall win by taking the first two legs... John Pryor, Adrian Webb and Jake Williams all got the same number of points [showing just how close the racing was in this final] and had to be sorted by their grid starting position...
A
FinalSpencer was possibly feeling the pressure a bit more than Malcolm and
had a couple of 'soppies' before losing a wheel in leg one allowing Malc a
fairly comfortable win ahead of Matthew Worton... For leg two Spence was a
bit more in control and took the win from Matt Butcher... Malc was closely
pressing Matt in third... Spence and Malc each had turns leading leg three
with Spence eventually taking the win by a few car lengths... Adam Smith
had a good run into third from tenth off the grid... What was good in the
final was the excellent conduct of the back markers allowing those at the
front through unhindered... Thank you!
Special mention to Dave Ringsell who despite a mid-week op to his
left arm made his way to race at this event despite being in some
discomfort...
With several hoping for a good run on Monday morning to improve their position overall... The weather did not exactly play ball with some dampness in the air... Brian Loynes took the win from the consistent Jonathan Holloway with Ashley in third...
Danny Booker finally found some form winning two of the three legs from Jason Gidley who took the third leg win... Marlon McKulsky was third overall aided by some sideline coaching from son Jordan!
D
FinalsWith many of the clubs committee appearing in this one there was some hope of a 'home' win... But Sidcups Colin Gardiner thought otherwise winning all three of the legs... Paul Canham did the best of the 'home' team coming second overall from Nigel Peaks with Pete Tims in fourth...
The 'longfellow' Dave Usher was also another three leg winner to take the overall win... Craig Morgan [up from the valleys] had a couple seconds edging out Andrew Clarke [from up north] for second spot... Rob Harry [also up from the valleys] was another to show well...
The
racing in these finals was always close [in fact maybe too close at
times]... Young Ben Mannell held on to take the overall win from Philip
Randall with polesitter Richard Thorpe third... All three of these had a
win apiece... Birthday 'boy' Leigh Burton was in fourth place...
Schumacher driver Jay Westwood, driving with authority, took the first two legs with almost perfect runs... Shame about the 'whoopsie' in leg three but you've got to leave some room for improvement! Jordan Howe continued his good form with two seconds for second overall from Ashley Wiffen in third despite taking the win in the third leg... Jonathan Holloway wasn't quite able to take his good form through to the finals took fourth from Tony Broad doing well from tenth off the grid...
Despite changing all the electrics overnight in an attempt to cure 'glitching' and a last minute dash to the soldering iron to repair a broken connection Adam Rogers car still came to a stop during his last gasp attempt to wrest the top spot from 'Crisis'... This left Luke to take the win from Ben Ingram... So no last round change at the top... Further down the order Tim Tims did manage his quickest run despite the track not being at its grippiest?
Chris
O'Donoghue took three straight wins to take the overall win... Tim Tims
came in second with Adam Malins taking the third spot more due to being
consistent rather than quick...
Three straight wins also for Chris Kerswell to take the A final win... Adam and Luke did their best to keep Chris 'honest' but weren't quite able to rattle him enough to make an error... Racing for the 'minor' positions was both fast and furious in all three legs and [nearly] always 'clean'... Well done to you all for a fine and entertaining display... Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did watching...
GT10Jason continued his winning ways taking the fifth round of qualifying
from Tim Webb and Mike Haswell...
For the finals Jason continued with his dominance... Graham and Andy
spent much of the finals squabbling over second position with Graham
pulling off a couple of masterful overtaking manouvres thru' Spashetts
during the third leg... With some excellent mid-field 'dices' thrown in
for good measure this class was more than a worthy addition to this years
event...
